Fender Jazz bass This Mexican-made Jazz bass was found at a guitar show in 2002. I'd been playing fretless bass for a while in a situation that involved singing, and attempting to sing while keeping an eye on the gridless fingerboard was yielding more headache than reward. I needed structure, i needed boundaries. I sought frets. And i found this. Except it didn't look like this; it had a nondescript black body and white pickguard (yawn), to which i began to apply stickers, but that appeased not my visual boredom. Then couple of years later i got this replacement Swamp Ash body routed for no pickguard, which i love. It arrived unfinished, so i gave it a final sanding and sealed it with Tru-Oil, a wipe-on gun stock finish. The resonance of the new bod is a world away from the old plywood bod. Otherwise i haven't changed anything but strings. Currently it's got flats on it, but rounds loom in the future. There's a very short list of things that look cooler to me than a Fender Jazz bass. The Silver Surfer, i suppose. And David Fincher movies. |
