Mobius Megatar Maxtapper Quad In 1982 i saw King Crimson at the Newport in Columbus, Ohio. Best show ever. Tony Levin was in that quartet and for the majority of the show he played a Chapman Stick. The more i learned about the Stick, the more intrigued i became by this entirely new approach to stringed intruments. Lamentably named the "megatar", this otherwise excellent instrument is based on that principle, and uses the same "inverted 5ths" tuning, (descending 5ths in the bass, ascending 4ths on the treble side, which makes no sense until you have your hands on it). Four Bartolini PUs (hence the "quad"), stereo output, Buzz Feiten tuning system. It can be used as a solo instrument, in which case it's more like playing piano than guitar, the hands operating independantly, basslines, chords, melody. I've mainly used it for enhanced bass parts augmented by some simple chords or perhaps a harmony part. I never was much of a piano player, though. A beautiful freak. |
